"WAVES"
An Immersive Sound and Light Installation
An Immersive Sound and Light Installation
In May 2025, I, along with Ellie Orr, Daniel Leaf and Laurence Deane devised and created an Immersive Sound and Light Installation as part of the RCSSD BATP 3rd Year Exhibition. Thie piece involved a lopping 20 minute ableton project, with various live, interactive elemnts running through various effect and looping plugins. It very much encourage audience participation, and encouraging them to make a soundscape themselves. Not only did the sound evolve and change, but so did the lighting rig, which reacted through the desk to certain frequency responses. Allowing for not just an audibly progressive piece, but visually also.
“Waves” is structured as it sounds. The piece evolves over 5 stages, entitled “Waves”, with the intent to take you on a journey.
Starting with an uneasy, shifting feeling, as though treading water, moving through danger and serenity before finishing with nothing but the wind and the waves, in isolation.
The piece was conceived initially by Bili Keogh and Ellie Orr through initial experimentation with percussive, digital plugins, and the mixture of water and sound. From there it rippled.
The piece draws on the idea of how one small difference can build and build, creating a drastic change to the order of what was before. There are little moments of sound and light that flash throughout the piece, like a speck in the sea.
Inside the space you will find various microphones and textured surfaces. We invite you to pick up these items and speak, sing, whistle or play with them. To create a wave of sound yourself.
